On Wednesday, October 30, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. central, I am hosting a new webinar entitled: 4 Critical Conversations for New Manager Success.
My goal in this free event is to share a framework of four sets of conversations and supporting activities promoting managers can use to strengthen their selection and early-stage development of new managers on their teams.
I’m sensitive to the plight of those stepping up to manage for the first time as well as to the challenges this situation poses for promoting managers. It’s a big step for everyone involved, including the new manager’s team members, and it is costly to get it wrong.
4 Key Conversations to Strengthen New Manager Development
During the event, I’ll share ideas on using the following conversation sets to strengthen new manager selection and early-stage development.
1. The “Why Manage?” conversations and activities are vital to mutual decision-making before your contributor is promoted to manager.
2. The “Mission” conversations help you and your new manager align on expectations and, importantly, help this individual gain context for how their role and team fit into your situation and the organization’s bigger picture.
3. The “What My Team Needs” conversations shift the focus of the dialog to the new manager working with their team. Together, the team members and manager establish expectations for manager support and involvement and forge a mutual “Charter for Success.”
4. The “3W’s” conversations help the promoting and new manager mutually focus on What’s Working? What’s Not and What To Do Differently. Both parties come to their one-on-ones armed with real insights and their unique perspectives to ensure a well-rounded, co-active coaching process.
Few transformations in professional life rival the complexity of moving from contributor to manager. While the work is by no means easy, these four sets of conversations and activities provide a robust, practical framework you can put to use immediately.
Join me on October 30, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. central and take a big step forward in helping your new managers succeed!
