It’s time to put on your coaching hat and offer your best guidance for the latest installment of The Leadership Development Round-Table Challenge. This month’s vexing dilemma is being served up by Mary Jo Asmus of Aspire-CS.

Guest Post: Success in Collaboration-From an Unlikely Source
Why is collaboration so difficult? Like that intersection, effective collaboration is governed by rules that may not be clear to the inexperienced. Players come and go, challenges and obstacles can appear from any direction, and no one seems to be in charge – or everyone is. It’s no wonder that many managers approach collaborative assignments with apprehension, fear and a white-knuckled grip on the wheel. Here are 5 ideas for improving your ability to collaborate.
Have Space Ship Will Travel-In Celebration and In Memoriam
The last Space Shuttle of this era has returned and the program is officially grounded for good. There are a remarkable number of leadership and management lessons as well as a fierce debate about importance and economics that all swirl around the space program. Just for today, let’s put those aside and remember and wonder and give thanks to those who served and to remember those who perished. The debates can continue another day.
The Votes Have Been Counted-July Leadership Challenge
Although the case lives on and discussion is always “in-session,” the voting for the July Leadership Development Round Table Challenge is now closed. Dan McCarthy of Great Leadership, was the leading vote earner, in a closely contested and well debated case. Congratulations to Dan!
Podcast: Helping Cancer Patients by Running 100 Miles for Life
A few weeks ago, I shared a guest post from a good friend, Ted Friedman, who started: 100 Miles for Life, an ultra-marathon event and charitable campaign in support of The Gathering Place, in Cleveland, Ohio. This podcast is a follow-on, and offers you a chance to hear personally from Ted about this great cause and about this ultra-marathon race. While we’re here for the fundraiser, those of you interested in running…especially crazy distances like 100 miles at a time, will enjoy Ted’s commentary on training his body and mind for the event.
Please Get the LinkedIn Invitation Right!
LinkedIn is an increasingly popular and powerful professional tool. Like many other professionals, I enjoy connecting with others via LinkedIn, and find it a remarkably useful tool for making new contacts, remaining in contact and conducting talent and firm research of all types. However, a pet peeve of mine is the generic invitations that I frequently receive from people I do and don’t know. Cut it out!
100 Miles for Life-A Cancer Assistance Fundraiser
Note from Art: While I’m not racing for 100 miles, my friend and professional colleague, Ted Friedman is, and I’m pleased to offer my support for his efforts. I’ve known Ted for a good number of years and we’ve continued our connection even though our professional lives have diverged. We also share an unfortunate common bond…we both lost a parent to cancer.
If you’ve lived through the loss of a loved one or colleague to this miserable disease, you are no doubt aware how critical the caregivers and assistance providers are to the patients and to the families during these battles. Ted recently described his cause and his approach to supporting and helping those in need of assistance, and I’m honored to share his story and encourage you to offer whatever support you can afford. -Art

Eric Rodriguez is the voice of The Millennial View here at Management Excellence. His latest post offers a reminder to those typically early career professionals who are accustomed to communicating in small bursts of acronym filled texts via their cellphones, to keep their unique language out of the workplace.
The Millennial View: Mentors Wanted
Eric Rodriguez is the voice of The Millennial View here at Management Excellence. Today, Eric shares his thoughts on the benefits early career professionals can gain from a good mentor. “A simple step that we can engage in to help our careers along is to find a mentor to guide and coach us in the workplace. A great mentor is a blessing because of the knowledge that they have accumulated through years of experience in the corporate jungle and their willingness to pass it on to their mentees.”
