5 Big Challenges of First-Time Managers (Free Webinar and New Program)

Sep 8, 2017

Tackling the role of First-Time Manager is challenging. Everything is new and in too many cases, there's no one to guide your way. That's why I created my free webinar: How to Overcome the 5 Big Challenges First-Time Managers Face, and my new distance professional learning program: How to Succeed as a First-Time Manager.

I still recall my not so glorious introduction to managing. If it weren’t for a great mentor, I might have found myself on the wrong end of an insurrection from my group members. It turns out, this work of managing is a lot more challenging than most of us anticipate. I want to help you succeed as a first-time manager!

I have incredible empathy for anyone courageous enough to tackle this role of manager for the first time. All the more so, because in too many cases in our firms, we practice the “sink or swim” school of management and leadership development.

Letting people sink is a horrible thing. Especially when most senior managers can look right and left and see a bench empty of leadership talent.

Last year, I made a personal, professional commitment to helping solve this problem. I devote no less than 20% of my time to working exclusively with first-time managers. I reflect this in my writing, my live programs, coaching time, and in my online professional development programs.

Aside from how incredibly rewarding it has been and continues to be to work with less experienced managers, it has helped me strengthen my view on how difficult this job truly is in our firms.

Free Webinar for First-Time Managers

My latest contribution to this community includes a free webinar: How to Overcome the 5 Big Challenges First-Time Managers Face.

In addition to highlighting the challenges and approaches for navigating them, I take on the 4 Big Fears that most first-time managers must learn to overcome.

It’s free. It’s 54 minutes, of which 50 minutes is pure, unadulterated content to help the cause.

Here’s the link to register for the webinar. We are offering it at multiple times over the upcoming days.

New Distance Learning Program: Succeeding as a First-Time Manager:

The last 4 minutes outline my latest online professional development program: Succeeding as a First-Time Manager.

I run these distance learning programs in a cohort fashion, and we just opened up registration for the next group. In fact, we have early bird pricing running from now thru 9/15. Registration closes on 9/20, and our first event kicks off on 9/21.

Here’s the link to learn more about the program.

The Program Content Includes:

Here’s the short form of what’s included in the Succeeding as a First-Time Manager Program:

  • 4 webinars focused on helping first-time managers succeed, delivered over 8 weeks.
  • Recordings of the webinars
  • All slides/materials
  • One-hour mentoring call with me
  • Access to a forum to share ideas.
  • A bi-weekly dedicated e-news with ideas on extending and applying the program content
  • Unlimited email access to me during the program for q/a.

The reactions have been tremendous. I just concluded a coaching call that left me exhilarated with the individual’s new found enthusiasm for their role!

The Bottom-Line for Now:

The actual investment for all of this is…well, it’s compelling for you. (I love the one-to-many model. It enables me to reach more great professionals and make it work for the budget.)

If you have a group you want to put through the program; I will make it more compelling. Drop me a note!

I hope you enjoy and use the ideas in the webinar in great managerial success! And I would be honored to support you or your team members. I am here to serve!
