Leitmotif: a recurrent theme throughout a musical or literary composition
Much like the repeating sounds that bring substance and meaning to great works of music, there’s a recurring set of notes and chords that emanate from all effective leaders.
- Respect
- Direction
- Context
- Inspiration
- Expectations
- Accountability
- Feedback
When played one at a time, a leader’s notes are audible and distinct. However, much like the depression of a single note on a piano, the solo tone lacks the context of the broader composition.
It’s not until the notes are played by the leader in combination that they begin to move people and teams to overcome adversity, push boundaries, dream and succeed.
Eventually, what emerges is something that sounds to everyone like success.
The Bottom-Line for Now:
What type of music are you making as a leader?
