Uncovering my Professional Purpose
I’m grateful to this day that unprompted, Dale offered his view on my superpower.
In that brief moment on an early, gray Seattle morning from our offices in Rainier Tower, Dale described what I knew in my gut was my true sense of professional purpose (more so than my superpower) at this stage of my life and career.
I love the work of helping motivated professionals grow and succeed beyond even what they had imagined for their careers. Everything I do professionally, from designing and delivering programs to writing books and articles, and teaching in graduate school ties back to this gift of a purpose statement that Dale shared with me.
The Joy is in the Journey
I’ve loved every stage of my career.
From that first product management role in a global technology organization to leading product, marketing, and sales teams in large and small organizations, every step was filled with challenges, opportunities to learn and grow, and great people and teams.
Serving as an executive for 15 years, helping turn-around an organization filled with great people and lead it to success in a new market, and intrapreneuring in one of the world’s great companies, Panasonic, offered roles of a lifetime. The successes were frosting on the cake.
The Best Stage
Yet, this latest journey, now 18 years in the making, helping great professionals around the globe grow scale their success, grow in their careers, and lead amazing teams and organization, is the one I love the most.
Part of this adventure includes writing — over 2,000 articles on leadership management, plus multiple books.
It includes teaching at the graduate level at DePaul University in Chicago and the University of Wisconsin and others.
And it includes the challenges of engaging with and helping some of the smartest people and most successful firms on the planet as they confront volatility, uncertainty, and the inevitable need to transform not only their careers, but also their lives.
