Limited Time Offer First-Time Manager Mentoring Programs

“I must also tell you that I get so inspired to go out and conquer what the world has to throw at me after working with you. Your willingness to share your ideas certainly has shown me why you have been successful in life.”

–Ken P.

The transition to manager from individual contributor is one of the most challenging career steps of your career. The skills that made you successful as a contributor are no longer front and center, as you face the challenges of guiding, motivating, coaching, and developing others in support of your organization’s goals.

The year one burn-out rate of first-time managers hovers near 50-percent, due to the pressures of the job, the opportunity for missteps and lack of in-depth training and preparation. (When I wrote Practical Lessons in Leadership, the research interviews indicated 80-percent of participants wishing they had more training and dedicated mentoring to help them navigate their first-time role as a manager!)

To help support your success, I’m offering two new mentoring programs designed specifically for first-time managers. If you are a new (within the last year) manager or supervisor, someone in line for a promotion or a manager responsible for the development of first-time managers, these programs offer a blend of education and group or personalized mentoring.

The First-Time Manager Mentoring program offers personalized, one-on-one support for four months, while the First-Time Manager Monthly Call program offers a blend of training, group mentoring and live q/a.

In both programs, I focus on helping you understand and strengthen the behaviors required for success, while avoiding the major missteps that derail too many well-intended new managers.

Whether you are navigating this role on your own, or you are an over-taxed manager of new managers, one of these mentoring programs will ease the burden as I help you or your colleagues build a solid foundation for success as a first-time manager!

Building a Solid Foundation is Critical for Success

Together, in both mentoring programs, we work on the skills and behaviors essential for you to succeed in your role as a first-time manager. A number of the topics and techniques we cover, include:

  • Establishing credibility as the leader. There are more ways to destroy it, and only a few critical behaviors to build credibility.
  • Building trust with your team members. Doing this quickly, requires you to rethink the process of trust building. You will have to go out on a limb on this one.
  • Navigating every first-time manager’s least favorite issue: conducting difficult (feedback) discussions. It turns out, with the right formula, they aren’t difficult at all, but rather, they become powerful performance discussions.
  • Recognizing early on that your most important activity is not one your manager told you about. It’s also one that no first-time manager truly recognizes until much later. (Hint: it’s about building the environment that allows your team members to flourish.)
  • Building a clear communication protocol tailored to the needs of your team members.
  • Learning about the one conversation that every new manager MUST have with team members.
  • Developing an operating routine that promotes accountability, communication and performance.
  • Promoting inclusion across your team to optimize creativity, innovation and problem-solving.
  • Learning how to engage with other managers and executives. One young manager was so concerned about this that he took the stairs and not the elevator to minimize the odds of chance encounters with executives.
  • Understanding how to best help your manager succeed. Yes, your promoting manager is your sponsor and biggest stakeholder. Finding ways to help him/her succeed is an essential part of your role.

The Programs

For a short time, I am opening up my mentoring calendar to take on a limited number of first-time managers where we will work together to help you thrive in your new role. Supporting first-time managers is a very personal-professional cause for me, and I’m thrilled to carve time out of my executive coaching and speaking work to support some great first-time management professionals.

To Help You Succeed as a First-Time Manager, I’ve created two programs:

The First-Time Manager Mentoring Program

This is where you receive individualized attention from me via two (or more as needed) monthly phone/skype calls plus unlimited e-mail inquiries for four months.

We work together to help you navigate the challenges of starting out and to begin incorporating the behaviors and approaches that strengthen your performance and odds of success.

I teach and guide, and answer questions on the obstacles and issues you are encountering on a daily basis. I nudge you in the right direction; encourage you to try new things and offer feedback and coaching ideas to strengthen subsequent performance.

And when we’re not together on the phone, you have unlimited access to me via e-mail for questions.

The lowest rate I’ve charged for this program is $1,250 per participant. For a limited time (and limited number of participants), I am offering this personalized mentoring program at $750, a $500 discount!

Additionally, all participants receive complimentary access to my Monthly Webinar Call Series (June-September) —a $250 savings.

As the person on the infomercial says, “But Wait, There’s More!” All participants receive complimentary copies of Practical Lessons in Leadership and Leadership Caffeine—A $30 value!

In summary, that’s 4-months of personalized, world-class mentoring support from one of today’s leading leadership coaches for only $750, with $780 of total savings for the first ten registrants!

For managers interested in enrolling more than one new manager, e-mail me for multi-person discount information.

The First-Time Manager Monthly Call/Webinar Series

This program emphasizes my teaching. We focus on the foundational issues of succeeding as a new leader and I provide strategies and tools to help you optimize results and minimize the missteps.

This is a monthly group call beginning in June and concluding in September, where I share insights in a training/discussion format. Expect 40 minutes of content and 20 minutes of live q/a.

All participants have unlimited e-mail access to me for support questions.

This program is typically $500 for 4 months, however, I am offering it for $250 during the month of May, a $250 savings.

Additionally, every participant will receive one free copy of my Leadership Caffeine book, a $15 value.

For managers interested in enrolling more than one participant, e-mail me for group pricing.

That’s $250 or $62.50 or slightly more than $2.00 per day for access to world-class leadership training and support!

Which Program is Right For You?

Whether you sign-on for the personalized mentoring or the group call program, I look forward to helping you thrive in this great role! Here’s a comparison of the two programs:

Success is a Journey and We All Need a Guide

Supporting the success of first-time managers is important to me. I’ve been blessed to have a good number of my own first-time managers grow into major contributors and excellent leaders. Helping you get this right is critical not only for your firm and team, but for your career.

I am looking forward to working with you!
