Great post and discussion, if you think of the fear we've immersed ourselves in during the year. Unfortunately, it’s hard to chase fear away, if you downright believe either job loss stats or credit crunch stories being pumped out at accelerated rates across current media streams. Still, it comes with peril and can shut you down like a tsunami takes out entire towns.

It can be handled best with a few tactics rooted in research though. Harvard Director of Risk Communication, David Ropeik, reported that brains are hard-wired to fear first, and reflect second. Have you experienced it?

Thanks again for the reflection that compels another look at fear or freedom for the coming year!

Cecelia,

Agreed. While the times are tough, they also offer remarkable learning opportunities for all of us. Don't mind unmasking some lousy leaders as well.

Thanks for reading and commenting!

Hi Art-- Scary but exciting times is how to describe the year. I like that you highlight the fact that bad leaders are now being exposed due to thin times, which I think is great. Inspiring and effective leaders now have a stage to step up.

Great post, Art. Turbulent times offer us opportunities to try new things and force us to learn from extreme conditions. I think this year and the Great Recession have started some dialogues about where and how we work and how we measure success that will be with us for a long time.
